Maryellen Reilly Appointed Associate Executive Administrator at HUP

(Philadelphia, PA) -- Maryellen Reilly, MS, has been promoted to Associate Executive Administrator at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), effective June 12, 2003. Previously, Reilly served as Assistant Hospital Administrator for HUP.

"Maryellen is a seasoned healthcare administrator whose dedication, resourcefulness, and creativity have served us well in improving organizational efficiences - which, in turn, permit us to better serve patients," said Albert Black, Chief Operating Officer of HUP, in announcing the appointment.

In her new role, Reilly assumes administrative responsibility for the creation, implementation, management and follow-up monitoring of the hospital's Clinical Staff Practitioners Program, which is being initiated in response to new Residency Program work-hour rules. She retains administrative responsibility for the following hospital departments or divisions -- Emergency Department, Occupational Medicine, Admissions Center, Clinical Resources Management and Social work, Medical Records, Neurodiagnostics, Respiratory Therapy, and Transport - and continues to serve as the hospital's HIPAA Privacy Officer.

Reilly joined the University of Pennsylvania Health System in 1998 as Director of the Clinical Resource Management and Social Work Departments for both HUP and the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center / Presbyterian (formerly known as Presbyterian Medical Center). During her five-year tenure, she has accepted various positions of increasing responsibility.

Before joining Penn, Reilly was affiliated with the Allegheny Health System - where she began her career in healthcare administration as Director of Infection Control at one of its community hospitals. Within a short period of time, she was elevated to the post of Corporate Director for Case Management and Performance Improvement for the entire nine-hospital system.

Reilly earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University; and completed her graduate work in Clinical Management and Immunology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (now Drexel Hahnemann-MCP).
