Anne R. Cappola, MD, ScM, Appointed
Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Anne Rentoumis Cappola, MD, ScM, has been
appointed to the positions of Assistant Professor of
Medicine in the division of Endocrinology, Metabolism
& Diabetes and Senior Scholar at the Center for Clinical
Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Prior to this appointment, Cappola was
Assistant Professor of Medicine and of Epidemiology
and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland
School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.
Cappola attended Harvard College and received
her BA in Biochemistry. She earned her MD at the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and ScM in Clinical
Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of
Hygiene & Public Health. She was a resident in Medicine
at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and a fellow in
Endocrinology at the Massachusetts General Hospital
in Boston, MA, and at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center
in Baltimore, MD.
Her current research focuses on the hormonal
alterations that occur with aging and the clinical impact
of these changes, particularly in older women. Her research
is funded by the American Federation for Aging Research
and by the National Institute on Aging.
She is a member of The Endocrine Society,
Women in Endocrinology, American Geriatrics Society,
and Gerontological Society of America, and serves as
a reviewer of manuscripts for the Journal of Clinical
Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Her research has been published in several
journals including Proceedings of the National Academy
of Sciences, the Journal of Clinical Investigation,
the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism,
and Diabetes Care. Additionally, she serves as
the Endocrine co-editor for the Harrison's Principles
of Internal Medicine Companion Handbook.
