Dr. Kirti Shetty Appointed Assistant
Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Dr. Kirti Shetty has been appointed an
Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at
the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
After earning her medical degree in 1991 from Christian
Medical College in Vellore, India, Dr. Shetty completed
her residencies in medicine and internal medicine at
William Harvey Hospital (Ashford, United Kingdom) and
Cleveland Clinic Foundation (Cleveland, Ohio), respectively.
In 1997, she began a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology
at the University of Connecticut, which was followed
by a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in liver diseases
at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York. Dr.
Shetty also served as an Instructor in Medicine during
her fellowship at Mount Sinai.
A gastroenterology specialist, Dr. Shetty's research
interests include liver cancer and clinical outcomes
following liver transplantation. In the past six years,
Dr. Shetty has received a number of grants and awards
as a result of her research activities -- most recently
earning a two-year, $100,000 American College of Gastroenterology
Junior Faculty Career Development Award. Very early
in her medical career, she won the Outstanding Resident
Research Award while at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr. Shetty has authored or co-authored original research
papers, editorials, reviews, and chapters of clinical
textbooks. She has presented her work at professional
meetings, and been invited to lecture at various medical
schools in the nation. Dr. Shetty holds memberships
in a number of national professional societies, including
the American College of Gastroenterology, the American
Gastroenterological Association, and the American Association
for the Study of Liver Diseases.
