Xiaowei Xu, MD, PhD, Appointed Assistant
Professor in the Department of Pathology of Laboratory
Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Xiaowei Xu, MD, PhD, has been appointed
Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine in the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine. Dr. Xu joins the Penn faculty from
his position in the Department of Pathology at the Beth
Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Xu received his MD at Shanghai Medical University
in Shanghai, China in 1992 and his PhD in the Bowman
Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in
1996.
After studying at Wake Forrest, Dr. Xu became a Resident
in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Hospital of
the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia before
moving on to a clinical fellowship in Dermatopathology
at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Xu's clinical interests include skin disease in
general - particularly pigmented lesions such as melanomas
- and prognostic models for melanoma. His research interests
include the biology of skin stem cells and hunting for
the molecular markers that indicate melanoma progression.
This year, Dr. Xu was given the Stowell-Orbison Award
from United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
