  New Tool Being Tested to Halt Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation

Cardiac electrophysiologists at Penn, in a new trial, are utilizing a high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation system (shown here) to treat atrial fibrillation of the heart. It’s the first tool to deliver energy bursts forward in a complete circle, all at once, from outside of the vein, so that the tissue can no longer conduct electricity.
