Myrna R. Rosenfeld, MD, PhD, Appointed
Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Myrna R. Rosenfeld, MD, PhD, has been appointed
an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology
at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
She is also Division Chief of the Neuro-Oncology Division
in the Department of Neurology.
Dr. Rosenfeld earned her PhD in Molecular Pharmacology
from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her
MD from Northwestern University School of Medicine in
Chicago. After residency training in Neurology at Case-Western
University in Cleveland, she completed a fellowship
in Neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center in New York. She has held faculty positions at
the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Cornell University
Medical College.
She and her husband, Dr. Josep Dalmau were recruited
to develop the Neuro-Oncology program at Penn to provide
care to patients with primary brain tumors and those
with systemic cancer (lung, breast, leukemia, etc.),
who develop neurologic problems. To support her research,
she has received grants from the Biomedical Research
Foundation, a division of the Central Arkansas Veterans
Healthcare System, the National Cancer Institute, The
National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Brain Tumor
Society, among others.
Among her many accolades, Dr. Rosenfeld has received
the Clinical Scholar Award and National Research Service
Award from the NIH, and the Rachel Molly Markoff Research
Chair in Brain Tumor Research Award. She is a member
of several professional organizations including the
American Neurological Association, the American Academy
of Neurology, the American Association for Cancer Research,
and the Society for Neuro-Oncology. Dr. Rosenfeld has
been invited to speak on numerous occasions and has
had her research published in journals including the
Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Neurology,
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, New
England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of
Neuro-oncology.
