Susmita Pati, MD, MPH, Appointed
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Susmita Pati, MD, MPH, has been appointed
an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics,
within the Division of General Pediatrics, at the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Dr. Pati earned an AB (cum laude) in Biochemical Sciences
from Harvard-Radcliffe College and a MD from the University
of Connecticut School of Medicine. In 2002, she received
her MPH in Epidemiology from Columbia University School
of Public Health. She performed her residency and chief
residency at Babies and Children's Hospital in New York
and her fellowship in General Medicine at Columbia University.
Prior to her appointment at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine, she was a faculty member at Columbia
University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Babies
and Children's Hospital.
Dr. Pati's research examines the impact of public policy
on the health of underserved children and families.
Her research on the subject has been published in the
American Journal of Public Health and Pediatrics.
Dr. Pati presented her research most recently at the
American Public Health Association 2002 Meeting on,
'The impact of welfare reform on utilization of health
insurance and food assistance programs in New York City.'
Her research on 'Intergenerational equity and public
spending, 1980-2000' will be presented at the Pediatric
Academic Societies' Annual Meeting in Seattle and at
the Poverty, Food, and Health in Welfare international
conference in Lisbon.
She is currently a reviewer for the American Journal
of Public Health and Pediatric and Perinatal
Epidemiology. Dr. Pati is the recipient of many
accolades including the 2001 Fellow Clinical Research
Award from the Society for Pediatric Research. She is
a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the
American Public Health Association, and is a Women's
Health Initiative Lecturer for SAKHI, a New York City
community-based organization dedicated to supporting
victims of domestic violence from South Asia.
