Edward S. Brodkin, MD, Appointed
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Edward S. Brodkin, MD, has been appointed
an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry
at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Dr. Brodkin attended Harvard University, where he received
his AB degree magna cum laude in the History of Science.
He went on to earn his MD from Harvard Medical School
in 1992. He completed his internship in pediatrics and
residency in psychiatry, both at Yale University School
of Medicine. Following his residency training, he was
a postdoctoral research fellow at in the Department
of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine
and in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton
University.
Among his clinical positions, Dr. Brodkin was a psychiatrist
in the Adult Autism Clinic at Yale University School
of Medicine; Staff Psychiatrist at the Schizophrenia
Clinic of West Haven VA Medical Center at Yale University
School of Medicine; and Psychiatrist in Yale's Longterm
Psychotherapy Program. Currently, he is an Attending
Psychiatrist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
He is a member of many professional societies including
the American Association for the Advancement of Science,
American Psychiatric Association, International Mammalian
Genome Society and the Society for Neuroscience. He
is also a diplomate of the National Board of Medical
Examiners and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Brodkin has received numerous honors and awards
including election to Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University,
the Leadership Award for Residents from the American
Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the National
Research Service Award from the National Institutes
of Mental Health, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career
Award in the Biomedical Sciences. His work on psychiatric
genetics and the biology of social behaviors has been
published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal
of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology, Neuroscience,
Journal of Neuroscience, Science, and Molecular
Psychiatry.
He is married to Stephanie Heck, MS.
