Thomas W. Faust, MD, Named Assistant
Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Thomas W. Faust, MD, has been named Assistant
Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology,
at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine,
effective immediately.
Prior to his faculty appointment at the University of
Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Dr. Faust held teaching
positions at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine,
where he was a Clinical Adjunct Instructor of Medicine;
and an Assistant Professor Medicine position at the
University of Chicago School of Medicine. Dr. Faust
graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Chemistry
and went on to earn his medical degree from the University
of Tennessee. He completed his residency in Internal
Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.
In 1986, he began his fellowship with the Department
of Gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center. His final fellowship, in 1996, was taken
at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in their
Hepatology and Liver Transplantation division.
His research interests include the treatment of viral
hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, acute liver failure,
and novel immunosuppressants for liver transplantation.
He is also interested in bioethical research pertaining
to liver disease and transplantation. Dr. Faust has
written or co-written numerous articles in peer-reviewed
publications including the European Journal of Pharmacology,
Gastroenterology, Transplantation Update, American Journal
of Gastroenterology and the Encyclopedia of Gastroenterology.
He is board-certified with the American Board of Internal
Medicine and a member of the American Society of Transplantation,
American Gastroenterological Association and American
Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD),
among others. Dr. Faust is also a member of the Manpower
and Training Committee for the American Gastroenterological
Association and a member of the AASLD Practice Guidelines
Committee.
