Muredach P. Reilly, MB, Named Assistant
Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Muredach P. Reilly, MB, has been named
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular
Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine.
Dr. Reilly, a native of Ireland, earned his M.B., B.Ch.,
and BAO degrees from the School of Medicine at University
College Dublin in Ireland. He went on to receive his
BS in Pharmacology from the same university. From 1990-1994,
he completed his residency in Medicine and his cardiovascular
diseases clinical/research fellowship at Mater Hospital,
Dublin, Ireland. In 1994, he began his residency, training
in Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
(HUP) and in 2000, he completed his fellowship in HUP's
Cardiovascular Division. He is presently in the Clinical
Epidemiology and Biostatistics Masters training program
at Penn.
Dr. Reilly's clinical interests focus on preventive
cardiology, vascular medicine, diabetic cardiovascular
disease and non-invasive cardiovascular imaging, specifically
as it relates to sub-clinical atherosclerosis. His research
interests include studying protein Kinase C in atherosclerosis;
inflammation, metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis;
genetics of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases
- particularly in type 2 diabetes; and magnetic resonance
(MR) characterization of atherosclerosis in vivo.
He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine
and the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular.
He has been the recipient of several accolades including
the American College of Cardiology Fellows Award, Cardiovascular
Fellow Teaching Award from the University of Pennsylvania
and the Merck Young Investigator Award. Dr. Reilly is
also an affiliate member of the American College of
Cardiology, a member of the American Heart Association,
the Society of Vascular Medicine and Biology, and the
Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.
