Dinggang Shen, PhD, Named Assistant
Professor of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine
(Philadelphia,
PA) - Dinggang Shen, PhD, has joined the Department
of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania School
of Medicine as an Assistant Professor.
Prior to his appointment at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine, Dr. Shen held teaching and research
positions at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Nanyang
Technological University in Singapore, City University
of Hong Kong and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
He earned his BSSE, MSEE and PhD degrees in Electronics
Engineering from SJTU, 1990, 1992 and 1995, respectively.
Dr. Shen's research focuses on medical image analysis,
particularly brain image analysis using computer vision
and pattern recognition technologies. As a Co-Investigator,
he has received several grants to support this research
from such benefactors as the National Institutes of
Health and The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.
He is the recipient of numerous honors including the
2001 Best Paper Award from the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the 1993 Top Ten Youth
Scientists Award from SJTU, and the 1998 Scientific
and Technological Achievement Award, Shanghai, China.
He is on the Editorial Board of the international journal
Pattern Recognition and has served as a reviewer for
numerous publications such as IEEE Transactions on
Medical Imaging, Journal of Mathematical Imaging and
Vision, International Journal of Image and Graphics
and the Medical Image Analysis Journal.
Dr. Shen has co-authored book chapters and many papers
in publications including IEEE Transactions on Pattern
Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions
on Medical Imaging, Pattern Recognition, Image and Vision
Computing, NeuroImage, and Radiology. He
has been invited to lecture on several occasions, most
recently at the Robotics Institute Seminar at Carnegie
Mellon University.
