Breast Cancer Surgeon Marcia C. Boraas, MD, Joins Abramson
Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania
(Philadelphia, PA) – Breast cancer surgeon Marcia
C. Boraas, MD, has joined the Abramson
Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania,
where she will also hold an appointment as Clinical
Associate Professor of Surgery at Penn’s School
of Medicine.
Based at the Rena Rowan Breast Center, Boraas is an
expert in using breast conservation surgery in combination
with radiation therapy to treat breast cancer. She has
published more than a dozen editorials and studies on
various aspects of cancer in leading, peer-reviewed
journals such as Cancer, the Journal of Clinical Oncology,
and the International Journal of Radiation Oncology,
Biology, Physics.
In addition to an active clinical practice dedicated
to treating breast disease, Boraas is a fellow of the
American College of Surgeons and a member of the American
Medical Women’s Association and the Association
of Women Surgeons.
For the past decade, Boraas practiced as a staff surgeon
at Jeanes Hospital and the American Oncologic Hospital
of the Fox Chase Cancer Center. She was Director of
the Jeanes Breast Center from 1989 to 1997. A native
of Philadelphia, Boraas completed her medical school
studies at Penn in 1977 and did her general surgery
residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania,
serving as chief resident in 1983. She earned her bachelor
of arts degree from Princeton University in 1973.
