Philadelphia, PA) - Andrew D. Wells, PhD, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Wells first joined Penn as a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Nephrology, later becoming a research associate.

Dr. Wells received his BA in Microbiology at Miami University in 1991 and his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996.

His major research goal is to define the molecular mechanisms that are behind the role of the immune system in organ transplant rejection. His laboratory is currently working under a multi-year NIH grant to study how growth factors activate T cells and how that activation leads to whether the body tolerates or rejects a transplant.

Dr. Wells is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Transplantation, the American Association of Immunologists, and the International Society for Analytical Cytology.
