PA) - Andrew D. Wells, PhD, has been appointed
Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Wells first joined
Penn as a postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Nephrology,
later becoming a research associate.
Dr. Wells received his BA in Microbiology at Miami University
in 1991 and his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996.
His major research goal is to define the molecular mechanisms
that are behind the role of the immune system in organ
transplant rejection. His laboratory is currently working
under a multi-year NIH grant to study how growth factors
activate T cells and how that activation leads to whether
the body tolerates or rejects a transplant.
Dr. Wells is a member of the American Association for
the Advancement of Science, the American Society of
Transplantation, the American Association of Immunologists,
and the International Society for Analytical Cytology.
