(Philadelphia,
PA) - Dr. Nacksung Kim has been appointed Assistant
Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory
Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine. Dr. Kim joins the faculty advancing from the
position of research fellow in the laboratory of Yongwon
Choi, PhD, at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University
of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Kim received a BS (1985), MS (1987), and PhD (1995)
at the Seoul National University in South Korea. She
worked at the University of Tennessee for two years
before joining Dr. Choi's lab at Rockefeller University,
prior to coming to Penn.
Dr. Kim is interested in the molecular analysis of interactions
between osteoclast cells, which create new bone, and
osteoblast cells, which reabsorb older bone.
Recently, her research has focused on finding what molecules
are involved in creating new osteoclast cells from precursor
cells. Her findings in osteoclast differentiation have
been published recently in the Journal of Experimental
Medicine.
