• When the map of the human genome was published a decade ago, physicians heralded a new era of medical treatments tailored to a patient’s specific genetic make-up. Although there have been some notable successes, the revolution in targeted therapies has stalled. Economic and political forces have also played a part to slow the pace of custom-made medicine. Led by Garret FitzGerald, MD, internationally recognized as a leader in the field and director of Penn's Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, a distinguished panel will describe the origins and outlook for personalized medicine at a time of dramatic change for the healthcare landscape. We present research that surveys the attitudes of early seekers of personalized genetic information by hearing from study participants themselves and a panel of experts covering the many aspects of this brave new world.
