Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Perelman School of Medicine and Health System website. The Department has a long tradition of excellence in patient care, research in women’s health and reproduction, and residency and fellowship training. The Department continues to strive to provide outstanding patient-centered care and to improve the health of women through our basic and translational research programs in women’s and reproductive health. Penn is considered a national leader in women’s health with one of the largest centers for women’s health research and extensive clinical programs.

We offer primary and subspecialty care for women at the health system’s hospitals, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital, and at ambulatory care sites in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs.  Our Helen O. Dickens Center for Women honors one of the first black obstetricians in this country and provides comprehensive care to the immediate community of West Philadelphia. We are also very proud of our comprehensive, interdisciplinary health care program, Penn Health for Women in Radnor, Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to serving the needs of the women in our city and the surrounding communities.  To learn more about our clinical programs, please visit our Penn Ob/Gyn Care website.

Our residency and fellowship training programs have an excellent reputation for providing a wide range of clinical experiences as well as exposure to research methodology and training. We also participate in teaching medical students as part of the Penn medical school curriculum. The faculty is committed to training the next generation of academic generalists, sub-specialists and physician-scientists in obstetrics and gynecology.  Our graduates are prepared to provide the highest quality care to women and to excel in translational research.

We are very proud to have one of the premier research programs in women’s health in the country at Penn, the Center for Research on Reproduction and Women’s Health.  I am also very pleased to announce the establishment of two new programs. The Women’s Health Clinical Research Center will complement our basic laboratory research programs, and provide mentorship and training in patient oriented research in women’s and reproductive health. The Center for Research on Early Detection and Cure of Ovarian Cancer provides an infrastructure for ovarian cancer research and treatment and serves as a catalyst uniting existing talent at Penn, and promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of ovarian cancer research.  The Center will focus on developing better detection methods, new treatment therapies, and improving the quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Penn is dedicated to improving the health of women.  Here, you will learn more about the accomplishments of our diverse and talented faculty as well as our clinical, training and research programs. Please browse our website to learn more about us and feel free to contact us if you would like more information about women’s health at Penn.
