Looking for our patient services?

The Penn Family Planning and Pregnancy Loss Center has recently completed a strategic planning process and has chosen to rename the program PEACE to better align our name with our mission to provide access to compassionate care for women and couples seeking family planning care and management of early pregnancy complications.

Our program was established to integrate family planning training and research for obstetrics and gynecology residents while compassionately providing excellent medical care to our patients.

At PEACE, we provide the full range of family planning services to a diverse patient population in a nonjudgmental, caring and supportive environment. We provide education, access to contraception, and counseling to prevent unplanned pregnancies. We work in conjunction with the Divisions of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Genetics in the management of pregnancies with diagnosed fetal anomalies, second-trimester pregnancy complications, and serious maternal conditions. We provide a range of options for the management of pregnancy loss or miscarriage.  Medical student and resident education, patient care, and clinical research are the integral components of our program.

Program Goals:

  • To improve resident training in all aspects of comprehensive family planning, options counseling, and induced and spontaneous abortion.

  • Contraception consultation and management
  • Hormonal contraception
  • Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) including hormonal and non-hormonal IUD's and contraceptive implants
  • Emergency contraception, including the IUD
  • Sterilization
  • Evaluation of pain and bleeding in early pregnancy (less than 16 weeks gestation)
  • Pregnancy options counseling
  • Medical and surgical management of miscarriage
  • Medical & surgical pregnancy termination
  • Pregnancy loss/abortion counseling and referral
