Congratulations to Dr. Robert Giuntoli!

Dr. Robert Giuntoli, Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Chester County Hospital, has been elected to the Academy of Master Clinicians.  This award recorgnizes exceptional clinicians who practice the highest standard of care, teaching, humanism and professionalism. 

Advancing Women's Roles in Academic Medicine and Science

Deborah A. Driscoll, MD, the Luigi Mastroianni Jr. Professor and the chair of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, has received the Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) 2017 Leadership Award for an Individual.

Each year, GWIMS, a professional development group of the AAMC, presents awards to an individual and an organization that “demonstrate a significant impact on the advancement of women's roles in academic medicine and science.”

Paving a New Path to Parenthood

Penn Medicine will conduct the Northeast’s first clinical trial of uterine transplants, to provide women with Uterine Factor Infertility (UFI) - an irreversible form of female infertility that affects as many as 5 percent of women worldwide and 50,000 women in the United States - with a new path to parenthood.

Congratulations to Elizabeth Abbott and Nicole Brown!

Elizabeth Abbott and Nicole Brown are recipients of the Penn Above and Beyond award.  This award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves by routinely going ABOVE-AND-BEYOND their duties and responsibilities even in the most challenging settings. They lead by example, do what is right and best for patient care, and inspire others around them to emulate their impeccable professionalism.

Congratulations to Dr. Christos Coutifaris!

Dr. Chistos Coutifaris was one of seven Penn faculty members elected to the National Academy of Medicine.   Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement and commitment to service.

Tina's Wish Research Consortium Fuels Collaboration Across Four Leading Institutions

Tina's Wish, the only nonprofit organization dedicated to funding scientific research for the early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer, announced that it will award $900,000 over three years to four collaborting researchers as part of the second grant issued by the Tina's Wish Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium.

Excellence in Ovarian Cancer Research

Ronny Drapkin, MD, PhD, director of the Penn Ovarian Cancer Research Center in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named the recipient of this year's Rosalind Franklin Prize for Excellence in Ovarian Cancer Research.  The prestigious award is from the Ovarian Cancer Rsearch Fund Alliance in recognition of an individual's contributions to basic science, translational, or clinical research in ovarian cancer.

Congratulations to Dr. Ann L. Steiner!

Dr. Steiner received the 2017 NAMS Certified Menopause Practioner (NCMP) of the Year.  This award recognizes one current NAMS certified Menopause Practitioner for outstanding work to his/her patients.


Resident Research Day

The 14th Annual Resident Research Day took place on May 19, 2017.  Dr. Maureen G. Phipps delivered the John Rock Lecture entitled:  The Role of US Preventive Services Task Force in Women's Health.  Dr. Phipps is the Chace-Joukowsky Professor and Chair of the Department of OBGYN and Assistant Dean for Teaching and Research in Women's Health at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Penn Pearls Teaching Award Given to Two OBGYNs

Congratulations to Drs. DaCarla Albright and Joy Cooper who were selected by the medical students to recieve a Penn Pearls Award in recognition of their dedication to medical student teaching.


2017 Awards & Honors

Dr. Maryl Sackheim received the Sharon Youcha Compassionate Patient Care Award for excellent patient care with compassion, empathy and respect, and listens and treats the patient as a whole person.

Dr. Sarah DiBartolomeo received the John J. Mikuta Award for Professionalism in Women's Health.  This award recognizes an individual in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who exemplifies a commitment to the highest standards of excellence in the practice of medicine, embraces the core values of integrity and respect for others, and is committed to the welfare of their patients and the health care needs of women.

Dr. Joy Cooper received the Robert R. Rascoe, MD Award for Excellence in Ambulatory Patient Care.  This award recognizes a chief resident who has demonstrated compassionate care and concern for our patients.  The recipient was selected by the attendings and nursing staff in the Helen O. Dickens Center for Women's Health. 

Brenda Efymow received the Louisa Tatonetti Borio Award for Nursing Excellence in Amburlatory Women's Health Care.

2017 Annual End of Year Dinner

On June 15th, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology held its annual end of year dinner honoring our senior fellows and chief residents. It was a great success and we wish all of our graduates the very best!
