Continuing Medical Education

Scheie Eye Institute hosts continuing medical education (CME) courses throughout the year for our faculty, fellows, residents and community eye care professionals.  These courses are sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education.

The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Clinical Pearls in Glaucoma

Program Overview
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide new and emerging ideas and principles in the management of glaucoma.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed and certified for general and subspecialty ophthalmologists with an interest in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.  This course may also be beneficial to other eye care professionals.  

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Explain the principles of Ocular Coherence Tomography
  • Apply the principles of OCT to the clinical setting
  • Learn new aspects from clinical trials and apply to clinical setting

134th Anniversary Meeting of the Department of Ophthalmology

May 9, 2008

Program Overview
The purpose of the Anniversary Meeting is to highlight the clinical and research activities of our faculty, housestaff and alumni.  Topics for this day will include anterior segment, retinal diseases, genetics, oculoplastic surgery, pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology. 

Target Audience
This course has been designed for practicing ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists-in-training.       

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Apply current research findings in your daily practice
  • Explain diagnostic and treatment options for ocular diseases and conditions
  • Evaluate and manage the patient with ocular disease
