University of pennsylvania orthopaedic journal Online Submission All manuscripts can be submitted through our Online Manuscript Submission system. Please read the manuscript requirements below before submitting. Editorial Philosophy The University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal's mission is to provide concise reviews of orthopaedic disorders, techniques, and treatments by experts in all disciplines of musculoskeletal care. As such, UPOJ will consider for publication original clinical or basic science research, review articles, case reports, and technical or clinical tips. The authors are asked to clearly define and narrow the scope of their topic to a specific condition or technique. In doing so, the goal of providing useful, descriptive summaries can be achieved. All manuscripts are considered for publication. Original work is given highest priority for publication. However, if a submission has been published or presented elsewhere, the author is required to obtain permission from the previous publisher and include this information with the submission. A cover letter stating such must be submitted with the manuscript. All other correspondence should be sent to editor@upoj.org. Editorial Review Process All submissions are sent to expert consultants with affiliations, either past or present, with the University of Pennsylvania Health System for peer review. The review process is blinded for both reviewers and authors. Manuscript Requirements Author name(s) or institution(s) should not appear anywhere in the manuscript. The author name(s) and institution(s) will be collected during the submission process. Manuscripts should be uploaded as a single word document with all figures and tables embedded and no author information. Authors will provide high resolution figures and tables upon acceptance. Manuscripts are not to exceed 15 double spaced typewritten pages. A total length should be limited to approximately 4,000 words. Lines should be numbered consecutively throughout the entire manuscript. Each manuscript must contain the following elements: Title, Abstract, Body, References, and Figures and Tables. 1. Title Page. The title page should contain the title of the manuscript only. 2. Abstract. Include a one-paragraph abstract of approximately 150 words that concisely states the objective, findings, and conclusions of the article. 3. Body. The text of the article is usually, but not necessarily, divided into sections with the headings Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion & Conclusion. 4. References. The reference list should follow the format utilized in the American edition of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. 5. Figures and Tables. All figures and tables should be included in the word document, with one figure/table per page, numbered consecutively. Legends must be included for all illustrations/figures submitted. Authorship It is to be clearly understood that each author has contributed in a meaningful way to the preparation of the manuscript, agrees with its content, and assumed full responsibility for the content of the manuscript.
