The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine is committed to the tripartite mission of pre-eminence in
patient care, education and research. By recruiting and retaining
world-class faculty and residents we strive for excellence, innovation,
quality and professionalism to accomplish our missions.
The focus of education addressing innovation and leadership is necessary if
the Department is to help train its students to become life long learners.
Each and every faculty member, by virtue of their ongoing commitment to
practice excellence in an academic environment, takes seriously both the
privilege and responsibility of education.
The combined research efforts of the University of Pennsylvania, the School
of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery have earned our
program a reputation of distinction. Specifically, the Departmental
commitment to research has its base in history while always keeping a keen
focus on the future. Our current status as the third ranked program in NIH
funding is a clear indication to yet another commitment to our mission.
The University of Pennsylvania Health System represents a large and diverse
group of patients with a myriad of complex musculoskeletal disorders. The
cornerstone of outstanding patient care and service excellence involves an
interdisciplinary team approach specific to each individual. Communication,
effective guidelines and standards of care become the vehicle for the
achievement of all interdisciplinary efforts.
We as a faculty working with residents, medical students and all support
staff are committed to creating the future of medicine.
