The University of Pennsylvania Division of Rhinology is a world-renowned center for the treatment of diseases of the paranasal sinuses and skull base. Serving as the main referral base for the Philadelphia region, Penn rhinologists also treat patients from around the country and the world. The Penn Division of Rhinology specializes in the surgical and medical treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis, and tumors of the paranasal sinuses and skull base. Over 600 rhinologic surgeries and 7,500 patient visits are performed in a year, many of which are revision or difficult cases referred from outside otolaryngologists. The division provides for comprehensive care of the sinus patient, offers allergy testing and works closely with the Center for Smell and Taste.

In addition to our dedication to patient care, the Penn Division of Rhinology is among the international leaders in medical education, basic science and clinical research. Led by David W. Kennedy, M.D., who pioneered modern day endoscopic sinus surgery, James N. Palmer, M.D., Alexander G. Chiu, M.D. and Noam A. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D, Penn rhinologists lecture extensively across the country and world, often teaching sinus and endoscopic skull base surgery to practicing otolaryngologists. Penn rhinology also hosts the largest and longest running sinus surgery course in the country, The Penn International Rhinology Course. Each spring, this 3 day event hosts participants from around the world, and has been an annual event for the past 20 years.
