HOW TO CONVERT FILES FROM NETWORKED GE CAMERAS TO PICKER FORMAT USING GAMMACON

Note: Whenever prism22 is rebooted, the GammaCon must be rebooted.

To Reboot the GammaCon:

Is the GammaCon on? If not, press the round power button on the front. System will boot automatically. If power already is on then to reboot:

1. Press any key to stop the Monitor mode. A menu will appear in the Monitor window. (If it doesn't, check whether the top bar of the Monitor window is blue. If it is white, move the mouse into that window, click it then press any key. If the Monitor window is hidden by another window type Alt+Tab once or twice until it is the top window, then hit any key.) Use the left arrow key to highlight "Exit" and hit Enter.

2. Click on the Program Manager window to make it active. (Note: it may be behind the window entitled "GE Starlink Agent Status".) Hold down the Alt key and press F4. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to end your Windows session. Click OK.

3. At the "C:\>" prompt, turn off the power by pushing the round button on the front of the GammaCon.

4. Wait 30 seconds then turn the power back on.

To Send GE Files To Prism22

There are currently three places from which you can send GE files over the network to the GammaCon for translation to Picker format:

(1) the GE Mobile (Donner 302)

(2) the GE Starcam 400AT (Donner 322)

(3) the GE 2000 (Donner 325)

The procedure is the same for all stations. In the instructions that follow, items that you type are in bold font.

Before Starting: Do not send raw tomographic data files to the GammaCon. Unlike most camera manufacturers, GE exports non-uniformity-corrected images, and we don't have software on the GammaCon to do the correction there. Therefore, for SPECT image sets, do a transverse reconstruction first and send only the resulting transverse files. Write down the file names of the files you want to send, e.g. ST TRANS for transverse slices of thallium tomos.

Procedure:

1. On the GE station that has the file(s) you want to send, type: NSND

and hit the RETURN button.

2. The screen will change to show a form with blanks that you must fill in to specify which file you want to send and where to send it. CAUTION: when you first enter this screen, there are asterisks in all the blanks. Asterisks are wild-card characters so if you inadvertently hit the SEND FORM button, many, many files will be sent over the network. Please be careful not to hit SEND FORM until you are certain the blanks are filled in correctly. At any time you can exit from NSND by pushing the ESCAPE button.

3. The cursor will be at the top of the screen on the "Destination Station Name" line. Hit the HELP button. A menu of network destinations will appear. Use the down arrow to move the cursor until the word GAMMACON is highlighted and hit RETURN. The word GAMMACON should appear on the "Destination Station Name" line.

4. The cursor will automatically move down to the "Patient Code" line. Hit the HELP button. A menu of patients on the GE will appear. Use the up/down arrows to highlight the patient whose files you want to send. Hit SELECT. A number should now appear on the "Patient Code" line.

5. Is this a tomographic study? If it is not (e.g. gastric emptying study or gated blood pool), and if you want to send all the files for the patient, skip to step 7.

6. Hit RETURN until the cursor is on the "File Name" line. (If you go too far, push the BACK button). Unfortunately the HELP button doesn't work here, so you have to know the file name(s) ahead of time. For Thallium Tomos, type: ST TRANS* to send the stress transverse images, DL TRANS* for the delay images.

7. Verify that (1) the "Destination Station Name" line says GAMMACON, (2) there is a number on the "Patient Code" line, and (3) file names are filled in as appropriate. Then hit SEND FORM.

8. The word S00 will appear in the lower left hand corner of the screen. This should increment to reflect the number of files sent, to S01 for 1 file, up to S02 for 2 or more files. IMPORTANT: if this doesn't happen you may have incorrectly specified the file names.

9. After a pause the word R00 should appear and increment to R01. IMPORTANT: if this doesn't happen the GammaCon: (1) may not be on or (2) may not be in Monitor mode or (3) may be locked up. Moving the GammaCon's mouse should cause the cursor to move. The Monitor window should have a highlighted line of text scrolling down the screen saying "Hit Any Key To Exit Monitor Mode".

The files are on their way. If you want, you can immediately re-type NSND and send additional files. In a few minutes the files should reach the GammaCon, where they'll be converted to Interfile format and sent to the prism22. Two minutes later the prism22 will start converting them to Picker format and they'll appear in the Clinical Index.

TROUBLESHOOTING GAMMACON FILE TRANSFERS

What if the files you send don't show up on prism22? Follow this sequence:

1. Is the GammaCon on and in monitor mode?

When the GammaCon is rebooted the Monitor window automatically opens and goes into Monitor mode (Gray bar scrolling down window saying "Hit Any Key To Exit Monitor Mode".)

2. Have you waited long enough?

It takes 2-5 minutes to send each gated study or tomographic study from the GE to the GammaCon. Then it takes another minute to translate them and send them to prism22. Then there is a 2-minute delay before prism22 notices them and begins translating them to Picker format. If you've waited 10 minutes and the files haven't started showing up in the Clinical Index, read on.

3. Did you correctly specify the files to be sent?

If in Step 8 (described above) you saw the word S00 change to S01 etc. this isn't the problem. If S00 never changed to S01 then the GE couldn't find any files matching your description. If R00 never changed to R01, then the GammaCon may not be on or may not be in Monitor mode. The Monitor window should have a highlighted line of text scrolling down the screen saying "Hit Any Key To Exit Monitor Mode".

3. Has prism22 been rebooted since the GammaCon was rebooted?

This is the most likely explanation. Follow the To Reboot the GammaCon procedure, then try sending the files again.

4. Is prism22 at fault?

See if there are any error messages in prism22's Odyssey Console window. Test whether prism22 can print to the Helios. If prism22 can't print to the Helios, test whether prism21 can. If neither prism can print, there is a network problem. Tell Janet. If prism21 can print but prism22 cannot, shutdown prism22. At the boot prompt turn off the power switch, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on and boot normally.

5. If you still can't get the files to prism22, please notify Janet.
