Descriptions of CT Fellowships

The Introductory Fellowship
ct tech Designed for those technologists with little or no experience in Computed Tomography. This program covers the very basics of CT including the principles, artifacts, image contrast, image quality, clinical applications, radiation protection and an introduction to contrast media.

The Cross-Sectional Anatomy by CT Program
This course prepares the technologist to develop a keen eye for human anatomy and prepares you for the advanced level exam in CT. The student will introduced to the relationship that each anatomical structure maintains in the human body integrating the axial, sagittal, and coronal planes.

The Intermediate Fellowship
This course is designed for technologists with at least 6 months experience in CT. This program builds upon the basics of CT and introduces the more intricate physical principles including Instrumentation, Image manipulation and CT determiners. This course will prepare the technologist for the more complex aspects of the ARRT exam.

The Advanced Clinical Fellowship
In this program the technologist will be exposed to the more advanced protocols and pathologies involved with Computed Tomography. In addition the more complex principles of computed Tomography are launched. Cardiac Imaging, 3D imaging, CTA's, Virtual CT, Radiation therapy planning with CT, PET with CT Fusion and other advanced procedures are thoroughly investigated.

The Advanced Level Examination Preparation CT Fellowship
Recommended for technologists with one or more year's experience, who are interested in taking the advanced level examination in CT. This course provides an in-depth overview of the physics along with clinical along with clinical applications of Computed Tomography. Mock CT Exams are conducted all week long for an extensive review of CT. Upon Completion 12 CE's will be issued.

Description of the Six Month Internships for CT

Course Dates -- 2007 Classes:

April 2 - September 21, 2007

October 1, 2007 - March 21, 2008

This competency-based program is a full time internship that combines clinical experience with didactic information and is intended for technologists who are serious about pursuing a career in Computed Tomography. Course Curricula and clinical competency follow the guidelines established by The Associated Educators in Radiology, The American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and the American Registry of Radiologic Tedchnologists. The objective of the six month of the six month internship is to provide the technologist with a firm understanding of the principles of CT (The didactic) as well as clinical experience (the clinical practicum). Upon completion of this program the technologist will be prepared to pass the CT boards and gain employment in Computed Tomography.

The didactic portion of this course includes all five one-week fellowship programs along with the weekend registry review program (described below) for a total of 135 hours of classroom activity. The clinical practicum includes 19 weeks or 665 hours of clinical imaging. Clinical rotations are completed on:

HUP:

  • GE Lightspeed
  • Siemens Sensation 4
  • Siemens Sensation 16
  • Siemens Sensation 64
  • Siemens Definition Dual Head

Children's Hospital:

  • Siemens Sensation 64
  • Phillips MV 8000 16 slice

Requirements for Acceptance

The minimum requirement for acceptance into the CT internship program is that the applicant be registered by the ARRT in either Radiography (R.T. (R)), Nuclear Medicine (R.T. (N)), or in Radiation Therapy (R.T. (RT)). Subsequent to the internship the Technologist will be required to take the Advanced level examination in CT offered by the ARRT. For consideration of acceptance, and to receive an information packet, please forward your resume.

Accommodation Information

On-Campus Hotel Accommodations
The following hotels are located directly on the University of Pennsylvania campus. Room blocks are not available at either hotel but you may indicate that you are attending a conference at the Hospital and are requesting the "University of Pennsylvania Rate." The present rate is $145/single or double per night plus tax.

The Penn Tower Hotel

The hotel is located on the Penn Campus directly across the street from the Hospital; a bridge actually connects the hotel with the Hospital so that you don't have to walk outdoors (which is especially convenient during inclement weather). The Penn Tower has moderately appointed rooms and cable TV. The hotel does not have a pool or exercise room. The Penn Tower does have a club level with some rooms containing VCR's (convenient for evening review of our MR tapes) but the discounted rates do not apply. For convenience and access to the Hospital at a reasonable price for Philadelphia, the Penn Tower is a good choice. We recommend this hotel if budget is a concern. It is also a good choice for winter months as the hotel and the hospital are connected. You can take the airport train directly to the Penn Tower (University City stop). The hotel features an indoor, covered parking facility for $15.00 per day. There is no food service in this hotel at this time.
