NEURORADIOLOGY FELLOWSHIP

Neuroradiology Faculty

A one-year and a two-year Neuroradiology Training Program is offered to individuals who have successfully completed their radiology residency and are board certified. There are generally 8-10 fellows in the program at any one time. Five fellows are accepted each year.

The program is centered at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), with neuroradiologic services also provided for The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Hospital, and Philadelphia Veterans' Administration Hospital. The Children's Hospital is adjacent to the University Hospital and connected by a tunnel. VA Hospital is located only a short walk from the University Hospital.

The fellowship provides training in the performance and interpretation of all aspects of neuroradiology including magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, myelography, arteriography, interventional procedures, and head and neck radiology. The fellowship also provides training in advanced CNS imaging including, transcranial color Doppler sonography, quantiative MR spectroscopy, perfusion MRI, diffusion tensor MRI, BOLD MRI, and CT perfusion and angiography. Fellows are supervised by staff neuroradiologists and are responsible for the performance and interpretation of all examinations under the supervision of staff neuroradiologists.

All fellows are encouraged to perform research. Most of the neuroradiology staff are performing funded research which enable fellows to readily become involved in ongoing projects. Our facilities at HUP presently include:

Conference Schedule

A multidisciplinary approach to neuroradiology training is emphasized. There is a close interrelationship of the clinical and academic activities of the Neuroradiology Service with the Departments of Neurology, Head and Neck Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Neuropathology. In addition, correlative brain cutting sessions are held weekly with adult, and bi-weekly with pediatric neuropathology services.

We have made a department wide commitment to PACS as well as to Voice Recognition Dictation Software, two technologies which are undoubtedly part of the future of our field. At HUP, though, they are already implemented and are part of the daily operation of our division.

Please note that we will be participating in the NRMP Neuroradiology Fellowship match for 2007-8. Please visit http://www.nrmp.org/ for more information
