Scheduled Test: Pet Whole Body Study for Cancer Evaluation

Where: Report to PET Center Patient Reception (3rd Floor, Donner Building)

Purpose: To determine tumor localization.

Preparation: Patient should be fasting overnight or at least 4 hours prior to scan.

Patient should be well hydrated. Patient should drink an additional 4 or more 8 oz. glasses of water during uptake.

Diabetics that have a glucose level >200 mg/dl should not be injected before consulting a physician.

A questionnaire for clinical patients will be completed (fasting, meds, weight, etc.). A signed consent, prescription, and patient information forms must be submitted prior to injection.

Pregnancy test results must be available when applicable or a waiver must be signed before injection.

Patient should void before exam begins. Imaging begins at bladder level for specific diseases.

A specific duration of time since last chemotherapy or XRT is not required.

Procedure: Your blood glucose level will be checked. Then, you shall receive a small amount of a radioactive tracer 18 FDG. The tracker will be allowed to circulate for approximately 60 minutes. Imaging will take approximately 60 minutes.

After Care: Resume your normal activities.
