The Penn Interventional Radiology Division is one of the largest, if not the largest, interventional radiology groups in the country. It provides leading-edge care to patients at three hospitals (Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center), as well as at a large outpatient center (Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine). Medicine, like time, marches forward and the division’s goal is to keep pace with the latest medical advances, as well as implement them so they are available for patients. With that in mind, the division built an innovative interventional radiology facility housing the latest equipment and technology in the field. Recently completed, the facility, located at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, has six interventional radiology suites, four of which are state-of-the-art, a nine-bed recovery area, three consultation rooms, and a variety of support spaces.
The Interventional Radiology Division offers the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases using minimally invasive techniques. The IR division has an active outpatient clinic and consulting service as well as an inpatient admitting service. See conditions that can be treated with Interventional Radiology.
The IR Division at Penn has considerable depth of expertise, performing more than 10,000 procedures annually. More than half of them are therapeutic, covering every aspect of the field. Embolotherapy is a particular focus of our practice. Procedures include:
Our facilities include eight fully equipped digital Siemens interventional suites including three with flat panel detectors and dynaCT capability, four c-arm suites, state-of –the art ultrasound as well as one compact ultrasound unit per suite, spiral CT scanners, and intravascular ultrasound. We participate in many active clinical research protocols and are currently enrolling patients. Please see how to prepare for appointments.
