Brad Keller is Post-doctoral Researcher in the Computational Breast Imaging Group at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He has experience in biomedical image analysis techniques and quantitative imaging in several modalities (Mammography, CT and Radiography), human physiology, disease processes, and statistics. Brad's current research focuses on the development of quantitative metrics of breast cancer risk derivable from digital mammography, as well as incorporation of these metrics into risk prediction models. His work investigating radiographic-genotypic associations has been recently awarded a Research Trainee Award by the Radiological Society of North America. He is also developing methods to quantitatively analyze micro-CT images of explanted murine mammary glands.

Previous to joining Penn Radiology, Brad worked on the development of methods for the quantification of HER2/neu from digital pathology images. He also worked on the longitudinal assessment of emphysema from whole-lung CT and associated statistical analyses as the research component of his graduate studies.

Research Interests:

To develop and analayze clinically applicable image-derived biomarkers from radiological and pathological images in order to improve assessment of cancer-risk and response-to-treatment at the individual patient-level.

Current Research Topics:

  • Development of a quantitative methodology to better estimate breast cancer risk at the individual level in order to identify those women at higher risk than the general population, so that tailored screening recommendations, surveillance, and risk reduction therapies can be offered more effectively.
  • Design of automated tools for the analysis and quantification of explanted murine mammary glands in micro-CT data.
  • Automated classification and scoring systems for assessing HER2/neu biomarker expression levels in digital pathology images of breast lesions in order to improve assessment of protein expression level for treatment recommendations as well as improvement of reader concordance.
