Brad M. Keller, Ph.D, is a post-doctoral fellow in the Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) in the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA) at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Keller is a multidisciplinary scientist focusing on breast cancer risk assessment, with experience in biomedical quantitative image analysis techniques, human physiology, disease processes, biostatistics and software development. Dr. Keller received a Research Trainee Award by the Radiological Society of North America in 2011 for his work investigating radiographic-genotypic associations of breast density, a major known risk factor for breast cancer. Prior to joining Penn, he received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering (cum laude) from the University of Miami and his M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University.

Current research

Dr. Keller's overall research strategy focuses on the development and analyses of clinically applicable image-derived biomarkers of tissue pathophysiology from radiological and histopathological data in order to improve assessment of cancer-risk and response-to-treatment at the individual patient-level. Current research lines include:

  • Identification of radiographic biomarkers of breast tissue histology and microenvironment
  • Development of quantitative, open-source software to measure breast density and other image-derived biomarkers of breast cancer risk
  • Development of automated algorithms for the characterization of digital pathology data for improved throughput and reproducibility
  • Validation and epidemiological studies supporting the clinical utility of automated software developed by our group
