Radiology Handbook

How to Use This Handbook

This handbook is intended to guide the physician in his/her selection of radiographic examinations. It is, of course, far preferable to consult the radiologist on each individual case. When this is not possible, descriptions of the various radiographic examinations and procedures performed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania are listed in this handbook to be used as reference.

The introductory portion of the handbook concerns general information about the Radiology Department. The remainder is devoted to descriptions of the examinations and procedures offered by the Radiology Department.

Each examination is outlined in the following manner: description, indications, contraindication, low yield indications, preparation, and complications. In some cases, alternatives and diagnostic accuracy are indicated. If one or more of these titles is not listed under an examination, it means that heading has no application to that examination. If a consent form is necessary, it is indicated by exam.

The examinations in this manual are listed by section (see Table of Contents on left).
