Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in our Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation Residency Training Program.
Our program is listed with ERAS (Electronic Residency
Application Service). We only accept program applications
via ERAS (www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm).
We request that applications be submitted no later
than November 11, 2006.
The goal of our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Residency Training Program is to promote the individual
growth of our residents by providing an organized
educational program, which will encourage their
development as expert clinical and academic physiatrists.
The growth of our residents is promoted in accordance
with the mission of the University of Pennsylvania
Health System, which is to provide for the health
care of its patients, serve as a clinical facility
for the education of health professionals, and
support the research activities of its medical
staff and the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania
Health System facilities: Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania (HUP), Phoenixville Hospital,
Presbyterian Hospital, Pennsylvania Hospital,
and Penn at Radnor. Our residents train at HUP,
Presbyterian Hospital, and Pennsylvania Hospital
as well as Childrens Seashore House of the Childrens
Hospital of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia
Veterans Affairs Medical Center, which are located
on the University of Pennsylvania campus.
The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
is organized into medical subspecialty divisions:
General Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation,
Interventional Spine Care, Cancer Rehabilitation,
Neurorehabilitation, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Functional
Outcomes and Electrodiagnosis. Our faculty provide
a high quality level of education and patient
care interdependently and also in collaboration
with other HUP Departments. All of our faculty
have ongoing research projects and compete for
extramural federal and private foundation research
funding. Faculty research provides the resident
with the opportunity to participate in research
under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency
Training Program offers an ACGME fully accredited
four-year residency (PGY 1-4
levels) in the specialty of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation.
The HUP Housestaff salaries and benefits are
commensurate with other major teaching hospitals
in the Philadelphia area. The benefits package
includes malpractice insurance, long term disability
insurance, medical/ prescription drug plan, dental,
vision, employee life insurance, accidental death
and dismemberment insurance, and dependent care
and health care spending account.
The Residency Selection Committee will review
your application materials when your file is complete.
After the initial screening of the applications,
candidates will be selected to interview with
the faculty and residents. Interview Days will
be held in November, December, and January. Candidates
must be eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania
on an entry training level 2.
In order to review your file, the Residency Selection
Committee will need the following documents:
* ERAS Application
* Curriculum Vitae
* Personal Statement (demonstrating your interest/experience
in PM&R)
* Deans letter (must have graduated 2000 or later)
* Medical School transcript (must have completed/or
will complete a one-month PM&R rotation)
* Three letters of recommendation (one letter
must be from a PM&R physician)
* A copy of your original qualifying examination
scores (USMLE / COMLEX)
* Valid ECFMG Certificate, if applicable
