Division Policy Regarding Performance Evaluation of the Faculty and Trainees
Trainee Evaluations:
1. All first-year trainees will receive written on line (Oasis) evaluations from their faculty supervisors for every rotation for five or more days.
2. The progress of all first-year trainees will be discussed at a monthly faculty meeting.
3. The Fellow Evaluation Committee will meet twice each year, with each first year fellow, review progress and issue a written report after each meeting. At this time the fellows will have the opportunity to review their records and make suggestions for improvement in the program.
4. In ambulatory care rotations, fellows will receive a six-month evaluation by the director of that ambulatory care experience.
5. Trainees in their research years will be evaluated by their research mentors in the context of their research duties. Written letters of support for grant applications and letters of reference for job applications, when they occur, shall constitute written evidence of such evaluation. These letters are forwarded to the fellows file.
6. All written reports and letters will be kept in each trainee's personnel file, and those reports may be read by the trainee at any scheduled time of convenience in the presence of administrative staff.
7. Any concerns on the part of a trainee or faculty can be made known to the Program Director or if necessary the chief, or associate chief.
8. Each year the faculty will select a fellow for the McCurdy award, for outstanding teaching.
Faculty Evaluations:
1. At the end of each rotation the first and second-year fellows will complete evaluations of each faculty member through the Oasis web based evaluation systems. Fellows will evaluate each conference offered by the Division. Each fellow will complete a Program evaluation. These evaluations will be turned in to the Program Director for distribution to the faculty. The evaluations will be discussed at a faculty meeting at the choosing of the Division Chief.
2. At the end of each academic year, all fellows will write a joint, anonymous evaluation of each faculty member. These evaluations will also be shared with the respective individuals.
3. Each year the fellows will select a faculty member for the Elkington Award, given for outstanding teaching.
