Cardiac Transplantation specialists evaluate transplant candidates, perform transplant surgery, provide implantable left ventricular assist devices for patients awaiting heart transplantation, and care for patients after heart transplantation. Medical and rehabilitatative care are provided in cooperation with cardiovascular medicine and rehabilitation specialists. Research on transplant-related subjects includes the physiologic consequences of cardiac rejection, the role of tissue matching in heart transplantation, dynamic cardiomyoplasty, and improved methods of immunosupression.
