PENN Cardiac Care Adult Congenital Heart Disease Programs provide care for a full-range of adult patients.  Our doctors specialize in caring for patients with cardiac deterioration to the point where a transplant is needed.  

Experience
The surgeons of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Programs have extensive experience, performing over 50 atrial and ventricular septal defect repairs each year.

The Adult Congenital Heart Disease Programs are additionally strengthened by our close affiliation with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  As members of the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, the surgeons can and do perform many of the procedures at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. 

Procedures
PENN Cardiac Care cardiothoracic surgeons treat previously undiagnosed adult congenital heart disease and also specialize in re-operative procedures.  They perform the following: 

• Adult coarctation, especially re-operative procedures
• Aortic root procedures
• Ross procedures
• Atrial and ventricular septal defects, including sinus venosus atrial septal defect
• Congenital coronary anomalies
• Tri-cuspid valve procedures 
• Lung transplants in combination with intracardiac repairs
