Craniofacial Surgery

Craniofacial surgery is highly complex reconstructive surgery requiring the skills of a multidisciplinary team led by a specifically trained plastic surgeon. Assessment and diagnosis are the initial steps for the parents and infants with a craniofacial problem. After a one day on-site visit with the specialists, the craniofacial team meets to establish the diagnosis and construct a treatment plan for the child. As there can be many variations within each of the identified syndromes, each plan is highly individualized. Addressing the psychosocial elements is a crucial part of each plan. Patients with severe craniofacial anomalies undergo successive surgeries and long term rehabilitation. Those with lesser problems may undergo one or two operations. The team coordinates care with referring physicians to avoid duplication of testing and to assure the families that there is continuity of care.

Conditions evaluated and treated are:
  • Apert's Syndrome
  • Crouzon's Syndrome
