Nancy P. Blumenthal, CRNP has been a Nurse Coordinator for PENN’s Lung Transplant Team since 1993. In that time, advanced lung disease and lung transplantation have provided her with a venue to develop clinical expertise and to promote Nursing by example. As a clinician, she cares for patients and their families throughout all phases of lung and heart-lung transplantation including consultation, evaluation, transplantation and follow-up. In her role as Director of Clinical Practice & Senior Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Blumenthal partners with her medical and surgical colleagues in the strategic planning and development of the program. Since its inception in 1991, the PENN Lung Transplant Program has achieved and sustained national prominence.

Widely published on topics of lung transplantation and pulmonary disease, Nancy has contributed to both nursing and medical literature. She has lectured regionally, nationally and internationally on the expanding role of Nurse Practitioners within the field of transplant as well as subjects pertaining to end stage pulmonary disease and transplantation. She is a frequent lecturer for both graduate and undergraduate programs at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and currently holds a faculty appointment as an instructor within the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. She derives gratification from providing mentorship to colleagues and consultation to the field. This commitment was acknowledged by her peers in 2001, when Nancy received the inaugural Dorothy Botdorf Award for Excellence in Nursing Clinical Leadership. This was echoed in 2010 when she was honored to be the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

Beyond the recognition of her peers, Ms Blumenthal has groundbreaking distinction to be the first nurse to have a have a professorship in medicine endowed in her name. In 2006, the Craig and Elaine Dobbin and Nancy P. Blumenthal Professorship in Medicine was established to celebrate and support physician-nursing collaborative practice in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation at the University of Pennsylvania.
