Having performed over 3,000 transplants, the University of Pennsylvania's Kidney Transplant Program and Pancreas Transplant Program, is largest in the Delaware Valley and is one of the largest in the country. Along with the large number of transplants, our program has traditionally had, and continues to have, superb clinical outcomes.
The successful transplant process begins with a thorough evaluation by transplant nephrologists and surgeons to identify and treat any medical conditions that may increase the risk of transplantation.
Once on the waiting list, patients are intermittently re-evaluated to provide reassurance that transplantation is still safe and in one’s best interest. These same physicians provide surgical and medical expertise when the transplant is performed and for years afterward. Certainly, this continuity of care has contributed to our success, and we are committed to maintaining this approach.
Additionally, our clinical program has been complemented by continuous NIH-funded transplant research for 29 years – a combination of clinical and scientific excellence and evidence of our desire to provide the best for our patients and for all of transplantation.
