Dr. Ian S. Soriano, MD, FACS, is Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. Dr. Soriano is board certified in general surgery and specializes in gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery.

Dr. Soriano completed a combined undergrad and medical school program at the University of the Philippines. He trained in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. After completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, he spent a year in private practice in Illinois before joining Temple as Assistant Professor of Surgery and subsequently appointed Associate Director of Bariatric Surgery. He then moved to Einstein where he started the robotic program in bariatric surgery and was also appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Jefferson.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was awarded Honorary Fellow of the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is a member of numerous surgical societies and serves as an active committee member in both the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic
Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has written 2 book chapters, authored numerous papers, given lectures and trained other surgeons in bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery in both robotic
and laparoscopic techniques.

His research interests include resident training and simulation in laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as clinical outcomes in bariatric surgery. His main clinical interests involve utilizing robotic and  laparoscopic surgery for many disease states, including weight loss surgery, hernia (inguinal and ventral) as well as all areas of gastrointestinal surgery (including: GERD, paraesophageal hernia, gallbladder disease, benign and malignant diseases of the stomach, small and large intestine).
