Michael A. Acker, M.D. is the Chief of the Cardiovascular Surgery Division at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and is the William Maul Measey Professor of Surgery. He maintains an active surgical practice focusing on the care of patients with end-stage heart failure, coronary artery disease and valvular disease. In addition, he has a special expertise in mitral valve repair for advanced myxomatous disease or in patients with end-stage heart failure. He is a national leader in the use of mechanical assist devices as a bridge to transplantation or as permanent therapy for end-stage heart failure. He is director of an active research laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania investigating both biologic and mechanical ventricular assistance.
