Lucy M. De La Cruz MD is a board-certified and fellowship-trained breast surgeon specializing in the management of benign and malignant breast disease. She is an Associate Program Director of the Breast Surgery Fellowship at Penn Medicine.

She performs all aspects of breast surgery including lumpectomy and oncoplastic breast conservation, skin-sparing mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, axillary lymph node surgery, breast biopsy and cyst aspiration.

Dr. De La Cruz believes strongly in University of Pennsylvania tradition of focusing on both excellent clinical care and research that advances the field of breast surgery. She has authored and co-authored original research articles in the field of oncology and breast surgery. She is an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS), Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), Women in Surgery, American College of Surgeons (ACS) and other professional organizations.

Other major interests are undergraduate and graduate surgical education. As an intern, she was voted “Intern of the Year” by her peers. As a chief resident at the University of Miami, she was elected by the medical students into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for her dedication to excellence in teaching and research.  As a member of the SSO she collaborated as part of the fellowship training committee to establish a mentorship program for fellows and residents interested in breast and surgical oncology which will start October 2017 as a pilot program. Dr. De La Cruz as a member of the ASBS Young Surgeons Group is collaborating to create a mentorship program for residents and fellows interested in breast surgery.

Dr. De La Cruz approaches patient care with deep compassion and a focus on achieving the best possible medical and cosmetic results. She strives to provide each patient with education and support throughout the process of cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. De La Cruz sees patients at the Rena Rowan Breast Center in the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
