Dr. Kristoffel Dumon joined the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery in the Department of Surgery. His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery and weight loss surgery. Dr. Dumon completed his Surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 which included a research fellowship in surgical oncology and a clinical fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. As a member of the the Bariatric Surgery Program, Dr. Dumon and the Bariatric Surgery Team at Penn offer comprehensive medical care for morbidly obese patients before and after surgery. The expertise of professionals in psychology, nutrition, medicine, nursing and surgery are the core components of the program. The PENN Bariatric Surgery team works together to provide the patient with the best medical care, while achieving lifestyle and weight loss goals.

His clinical research interests include the multidisciplinary management of bariatric patients, the use of new technologies such as endoluminal strategies and robotic surgery for the treatment of Bariatric patients. He also investigates clinical outcome with bariatric surgery and is involved with patient safety and quality improvement research in this field. He has authored numerous journal articles and textbook chapters related to his clinical and basic research interests. In addition to his clinical activities, Dr Dumon continues to be heavily involved with resident education and the development of a comprehensive surgical skills curriculum for residents in surgery.

Research

Dr Dumon’s basic science research focuses on the immune mechanisms and inflammatory response in the surgical patient and the molecular basis of pancreatic cancer. He is currently involved with research looking at the value and impact of formal surgical skills education for the training of surgical residents. He has authored numerous journal articles and textbook chapters related to his clinical and basic research interests.
