Dr. Kaplan is Interim Chief of Surgery, Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Philadelphia: Dr. Kaplan is an Associate Professor in the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and faculty of the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Emergency Surgery at Penn Medicine.  Dr. Kaplan is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.  He completed his residency in Surgery and a fellowship in CT Surgery Research at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Pittsburg School of Medicine.  Dr. Kaplan has held positions as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Emergency Medicine, MCP – Hahnemann University School of Medicine.  Most recently he was an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine where he served as the Director of Emergency General Surgery, the Director of Surgical Critical Care, and the Director of Tactical Emergency Medicine. His research interests focus on unmeasured ions in acid-base balance, tactical emergency medical support, resuscitation, and surgical critical care outcomes.
