Dr. Mattei is Assistant Professor of Surgery at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Attending Physician in the Division of General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. He specializes in all aspects of pediatric general and thoracic surgery, newborn surgery, and hernia surgery, with special expertise in pediatric surgical oncology, surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, and minimally invasive surgery, including daVinci robotic-assisted laparoscopy and thoracoscopy.
Dr. Mattei attended the University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed General Surgery training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He was voted one of the Top Docs for Kids in Philadelphia Magazine in 2001 and one of the Best Doctors in America on multiple occasions.
Dr. Mattei is a fellow of several major surgical and pediatric surgical associations including the American College of Surgeons, the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the College of Physicians in Philadelphia. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has published a major textbook of pediatric surgery, Surgical Directives: Pediatric Surgery. |
