Dr. Mullen is the UPHS Corporate Director of PeriOperative Services and the HUP Associate Executive Director. He also continues as the Vice Chairman, Administration of the Department of Surgery. His administrative career has included Interim Chair, PENN SURGERY, Philadelphia VA Chief of Surgery, Founder/Director Penn Home Infusion and Founder/Director of the HUP Nutrition Support Service, Director of Surgery’s Residency Programs in addition to his current responsibilities.

 

UPHS Appointments
Dr. Mullen has been a member of the Attending Staff of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania since 1975 and the founder and Director of the Clinical Nutrition Support Services since 1977.

From 1992 to 1996 he was also the Director of Penn Home Infusion Therapy, a wholly-owned entity of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1996, Dr. Mullen was appointed Medical Director of the HUP Operating Room and Director of the Peri-Operative Service Excellence Re-Engineering Program.

Educational/Training Highlights

Dr. Mullen graduated from Harvard College with a BA degree in 1963, and from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine receiving his MD degree in 1967. He successfully completed his general surgery residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 becoming Board-Certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1974.
