Dr. Matthew Williams attended Duke University on an athletic scholarship and then matriculated to the Duke University School of Medicine. He then went on to Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital as a resident in general surgery. Dr. Williams then returned to Duke for his cardiothoracic surgery training. Dr. Williams then accepted a position at the University of Louisville and spent five years in busy clinical practice where he was Director of Translational Research and served as the local primary investigator in multiple clinical trials before accepting a position at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Williams’ clinical interests are focused on minimally invasive valve surgery and mechanical circulatory support. He has a strong interest in clinical research in the treatment of heart failure and valvular heart disease, and serves on multiple committees for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database .
