Dr. Datta is a PGY-6 Categorical General Surgery Resident. He is currently in the midst of his 4th year of General Surgery training, having recently completed a Harrison Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Brian J. Czerniecki. While in the laboratory, Dr. Datta developed a novel immunotherapeutic approach to targeting mutated BRAF in a murine melanoma model, investigated endogenous and dendritic cell vaccine-induced immune responses in breast cancer, and identified novel HER3-derived class II-promiscuous CD4+ peptides for use in cancer vaccination. On the clinical research front, Dr. Datta collaborated with Dr. Robert E. Roses to examine the complex interactions between surgical performance and multimodality therapy in gastric cancer. Dr. Datta received the prestigious Association for Academic Surgery Research Fellowship Award for 2014-2015, and the Jonathan R. Rhoads Research Award for his efforts in the laboratory. He plans to enter an academic career in Surgical Oncology, with a special focus in GI and HPB oncology.
