Dr. Victoria Gershuni is currently a PGY1 General Surgery resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her clinical interests include Endocrine/Oncologic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery. She is interested in surgical education and surgical outcomes research. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a BS in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (2008), she earned her Master of Science in Global Medicine (2009). She then earned her MD from Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine (2014) and received the Louis and Dorothy Kovitz Senior Prize in Surgery.

Principal Investigator: L. Michael Brunt, MD
Description: Designed, conducted, and evaluated interventions for the acquisition and retention of surgical skills among 4th year medical students and surgical residents. Evaluated clinical outcomes and indications for surgery using data collected from patients and medical records.

Department of Surgery, Section of Acute & Critical Care Surgery – Washington Univ. in St. Louis
Principal Investigator: Grant V. Bochicchio, MD
Description: Operated on large animals using a model for surgical site infections; collected data for evaluation of operative technique, materials, and healing. Understand the use of biologic and synthetic materials for hernia repair and the role of pathogens in site infections and delayed healing.
 
2006 - 2007
Center for Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer (TREC) – USC
Principal Investigator: Donna Spruijt-Metz, PhD
Description: Collected data from patients and medical records for multiple clinical research projects. Performed literature reviews on eating behaviors, exercise motivation, and the incidence of DM2 among pre-pubertal Latinas. Designed questionnaires/surveys to understand different aspects of the role of mood and motivation in likelihood of exercising. Developed a method for coding recorded phone interviews for data analysis.

Field Research in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka
Principal Investigator: Wolfgang Dittus, PhD
Description: Collected data on toque macaques in Sri Lanka which included their observed behavior, social interactions, feeding and breeding patterns.
