| Research |
2007 - 2012
Basic Science: Dr. Jawad's research has focused on the role of Matrix Metalloproteinase 1 in sarcoma biology. He has identified the cellular source of MMPs in human sarcomas. He also worked on a murine model of human osteosarcoma characterizing the effects of MMP-1 silencing on local tumor growth and distant metastasis. He used Di-I to investigate the interaction of GFP labeled sarcoma cells and the vessel bed in sarcoma model. He further used the CAM model to look at the effects of MMP production on permeability and stability of vascular bed in sarcomas.
During his time at Stanford, he investigated the homing characteristics of systemically injected stem cells in the presence of a non-critical sized bone defect. He further investigated the effects of anti-sclerostin antibody (Amgen) on homing characteristics of systemically injected stem cells. He continued his investigation on stems cells at Cedars-Sinai using the iPS-Cells and human embryo forebrain derived cell line.
Clinical Science: He has published population based outcome studies for various bone sarcomas using the NCI SEER database. During his time at Cedars-Sinai he looked at the use of tripolar constrained device for hip reconstruction for proximal femoral resections for oncologic reasons. |
