Dr. Murken is a fourth year surgery resident planning to pursue a career in abdominal transplant surgery. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Penn State with a degree in Chemistry in 2008. He received his MD from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2012.  He is currently a research fellow in the lab of Dr. Matthew Levine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  His basic science research focuses on elucidating key genes and pathways involved in iscehmia-reperfusion injury in kidney and liver transplantation.  He is also involved in developing a phase two clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of peri-operative estrogen administration in mitigating ischemia repercussion injury and reducing the incidence of delayed graft function in kidney transplantation.
