Dr. Shafi's currently a fellow in cardiac surgery. His interests include a focus on minimally invasive applications with either robots or laparoscopy. His research focuses on medical device development. Following his residentcy he will be pursuing a fellowship in cardiac surgery.

University of Pennsylvania, Dept. of Bioengineering/Dept. of Neurosurgery: Use of triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) to determine lesion size following lateral fluid percussion traumatic brain injury in rats.

University of Pennsylvania, Dept. of Bioengineering/Dept. of Neurosurgery: Effects of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on hippocampal neurons following lateral fluid percussion traumatic brain injury in rats.

NIH Research Fellowship
University of Pennsylvania, Dept. of Bioengineering/Dept. of Neurosurgery: Retrospective chart review to determine age dependent head injury patterns in children to correlate with experimental and computational head injury models. Determine the slip differential between the brain and the skull using a porcine rotational head injury device and SPAMM MRI imaging.
