Penn Trauma and Critical Care Conferences

The Biannual Penn Trauma & Critical Care Conferences provide in-depth, cutting-edge and state-of-the-art information in the field of Trauma and Critical Care and are designed to review the management of the severely ill and injured patient. Each conference seeks to cover a wide range of Trauma and Critical Care topics from standard-of-care principles to emerging theoretical and practical medicine and science. Topics typically explored are surgical technique, resuscitation, infection, respiratory care, nutrition, prehospital care, ethics, research, theoretical and practical issues in the care of the Trauma and Critical Care patient. Our target audience is comprised of physicians, advance practice clinicians, nurses as well as all allied health care providers with an interest in the care and management of Trauma and Critical illness and injury.

A Conference of Trauma, Acute & Critical Care Education

The PennTRAC Conference was the dream of John P. Pryor, MD, Trauma Program Director for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his Fellowship in Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, JP joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery. With a passion for the care of the ill & injured patient and the mission to educate those caring for them, JP planned an educational conference week during which we would offer Trauma and Critical Care courses and a mid-week conference, allowing clinicians and allied professionals the opportunity to learn, teach and network in a single week. Today, we offer a major course immediately before or after our annual PennTRAC Conference.

John, a visionary surgeon, colleague, mentor and educator, died while caring for wounded soldiers in Iraq, in 2008.
